Required score on what is left, and the highest grade that is still actually available.
Two ways in. If your gradebook already shows points earned, use those. If it shows a percentage, switch to the item table and enter each graded item's weight and your score - that is the honest route, because it does not assume every item counted equally.
The required score is (target − banked) ÷ outstanding weight.
If it prints above 100, that is not your target - it is proof the target is gone, and the calculator that
shows it without saying so is the reason this page exists.
The ceiling is banked + outstanding weight × maximum score. It is one
addition, it is always in range, and it is the number to plan against. If the ceiling is below the grade you
need, the useful work is no longer the final: it is finding ungraded weight, checking a replacement rule,
or asking the instructor what is still open.
Banked 53.05, outstanding 35%, target 85: required score 91.29, ceiling 88.05. Raise the target to 91.29 and the required score becomes 109.26 - over 100, so that grade was never available, and the ceiling says so in one line.
It models a weighted sum of the course as your syllabus states it. It does not know your institution's rounding, whether a grade is capped by a policy you have not entered, how a curve is applied, or what any particular learning platform displays in its "current grade" field - those are computed by software I have not tested. If your instructor's gradebook and this page disagree, theirs is the grade; bring the working, not the screenshot.
